Cybercrime and You: Fraud and Scams in 2024

On 13 February 2024, CBOS held their inaugural ‘Cybercrime and You: Fraud and Scams in 2024’ event in Hobart.

The event brought together a panel of Tasmanian cybercrime experts to discuss the threats posed by current fraud and scam trends and how consumers can prevent themselves from becoming victims of cybercrime.

Speaking to their combined wealth of academic knowledge and industry experience, the panellists discussed emerging trends and financial impacts of cybercrime in Australia; investment scams; romance scams; and cybersecurity and how Tasmanians can defend themselves from cyber threats. They also presented real-life case studies along the way.

Following the panel session, attendees had the opportunity to ask the experts their questions relating to fraud and scams in what proved to be an informative and fruitful Q&A session.

Open to all community members with an interest in learning how to spot, handle, report and recover from cybercrime attempts, the free event attracted over 50 attendees on the day.

For those interested, a live recording of the event is available to view on Vimeo.
