Australian Standard AS/NZS 5033:2021 Installation and safety requirements for photovoltaic (PV) arrays will commence in Tasmania on 1 June 2022. The Standard was published on 19 November 2021. A 6-month transition period was allowed in Tasmania to enable people to adapt to the changes.
What are the requirements for DC cables?
AS/NZS 5033:2021 clause 4.4.2.1(b) requires that photovoltaic (PV) DC cables must conform to IEC 62930 where not installed underground. IEC 62930 was published in December 2017. It supersedes the previous requirements.
What do I need to do?
Ensure the DC cables that you are installing after 1 June 2022 conform to IEC 62930. Check with your electrical wholesaler or supplier before purchasing. Compliant cables will have “62930 IEC” printed on the cable.
If you have installed DC cables which comply with the previous requirements prior to 1 June 2022 they remain compliant. If you submit a Certificate of Electrical Compliance for the installation after 1 June 2022, make sure you have records (such as photos) which show when the cabling was installed.
